Patna: Bihar Assembly, on the sixth day of the ongoing monsoon session on Friday, was adjourned in the seventh minute of the session as opposition leaders led by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) created chaos over the deaths of hundreds of children due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) in Bihar.
As soon as the session began on Friday morning, opposition leaders demanded resignation of Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey who, they said, failed to take early action to prevent the disease from spreading.
Assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chowdhary tried to calm down the protestors but his voice was drowned in the noise created by the RJD leaders and their allies in the opposition.
As the protestors stepped into the well, Chowdhary adjourned the session till lunch.
RJD and CPI-ML leaders then chanted anti-Nitish slogans outside the Assembly building while continuing to demand for the resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Health Minister Mangal Pandey.
Pandey reacted by saying that the RJD, since the outbreak of AES, not once called his office to suggest a way to save the children though many of them called him on multiple occasions to ask personal favor for them.
"Those who are protesting today are only shedding crocodile tears over the death of children. This is all political and it is clear that their intentions are not honest," he said.
