Patna: In a rather unexpected move, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday expelled one of his diehard supporters and state’s Industry Minister Shyam Rajak after reports of him planning to leave Kumar’s Janata Dal – U in favor of his original party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) surfaced in the media.
Rajak, once the right hand man of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav who quit the party in 2009 to join hand with Nitish Kumar as the latter’s political fortune rose in the state, had been reportedly sulking lately due to his continued marginalization by his boss who has taken a liking to RCP Singh giving him more prominence in the party more than others.
Kumar’s recommendation to drop Rajak from the Bihar cabinet was accepted by Governor Fagu Chauhan, it was reported.
Meanwhile, Rajak is said to be all set to join his original party where he once was considered a ‘family-walla’ by the entire Lalu clan until he decided to dump Lalu Prasad Yadav and accept Nitish Kumar as his leader of choice.
Sources in the RJD said Rajak was planning to visit Yadav at his jail cell in Ranchi to seek both his forgiveness and blessing.
He was recently heard showering praise on Yadav’s son and party’s heir-apparent Tejaswi Yadav who he described as a very dynamic leader with very bright political future.
