Patna: In a new twist to the already bizarre election of Bihar Assembly that has seen enough drama already involving Chirag Paswan disavowing the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and former Mahagathbandhan partner Jitan Ram Manjhi going back to the NDA fold, among others, Congress Party on Wednesday announced fielding former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shatrughan Sinha’s son Luv Sinha from the Bankipur seat where he will go head to head with incumbent BJP MLA Nitin Navin.
Luv Sinha, an unsuccessful actor like Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Chirag Paswan, is all set to make his debut in Bihar politics that sent his father to the Parliament from Patna Saheb constituency a number of times until he was virtually kicked out of the party to make room for Ravi Shankar Prasad, the senior BJP leader and Union Law and Justice, Electronics and Information Technology, and Communications Minister.
Thirty-seven-year-old Sinha will take on Navin, a three-time legislator from Bankipur, in the state that goes to poll on October 28 with second and third phase of the election to be held on November 3 and 7 respectively.
Results of the election will be announced on November 10.
It may be recalled that Shatrughan Sinha, a lifelong BJP member, was sidelined by the party in the last Lok Sabha elections due to the former Bollywood actor’s relentless criticism against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following a series of failure by the Modi government including the administration’s policy on GST and demonetization.
Sinha then contested from the same constituency on a Congress ticket only to be swept away by Ravi Shankar Prasad.
In a state where caste plays a huge role in each election, both Luv Sinha and Nitin Navin come from the Kayastha family.
Luv Sinha was last seen in a 2018 film ‘Paltan’ with his first movie ‘Sadiyaan’ being released in 2010.
