Patna: Police in Patna on Friday nabbed Pankaj Sharma, one of the top-10 most wanted criminals in the state capital, from under Rajiv Nagar police station following a tip-off of his whereabouts and movements by an unidentified source.
Wanted in nearly 50 cases including murder, robbery, kidnapping, and extortion in Patna and Hajipur areas, Sharma was wanted by Sachivalaya, Rajiv Nagar, Jaiprakash Nagar, Patrakar Nagar, Kankarbagh police stations in Patna and Bidupur police station in Vaishali district, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said.
Talking to reporters, police said Sharma, who was out on bail for the past 15 months, shot and seriously injured jewelry trader in Patna during a botched robbery attempt in 2015. He also shot and killed a dairy operator after the latter refused to give him milk for free.
About a year ago, Sharma robbed a woman on morning walk in Kankarbagh and used her ATM card to steal money from an ATM in Hajipur.
Recently, he opened fire at the clerk of the Amrapali Hotel in Sri Krishna Puri when he was asked to pay for his food.
Police recovered 500 grams of charas and about the same amount in ganja from is possession.
The SSP said the police has recommended imposing Crime Control Act (CCA) to put him behind bars for a very long period of time.
