Patna: Women in Patna on Tuesday observed Vat Savitri Puja to seek longevity for their husbands by tying the traditional sacred thread on the trunk of Bunyan tree across the state capital.
Starting early morning, married women, after taking shower, put on new clothes and walked barefoot to the nearest Bunyan tree where they paid obeisance to Lord Vishnu to seek long life for their husbands. Those who did not have easy access to a Bunyan tree, used Pipal tree as substitute.
Under the tree, the devotees, after offering prayer to Lord Vishnu, shared 'prasad' and 'sindoor' with other women
As per the Hindu mythology, by offering prayer to the Bunyan tree that is regarded as a symbol of strength and longevity, married Hindu women hope to have longer and happier conjugal life.
