Patna: Despite his history of political arm-twisting prior to each state and national election as a bargaining tool, it appears Upendra Kushwaha, the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) chief, is at the end of his rope as neither the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led Mahagathbandhan nor the BJP-led NDA has shown any sign of making a deal with him for the upcoming Bihar elections.

Faced with no other option, Kushwaha, a former Minister in the Narendra Modi administration, is said to be considering forming a third front with other smaller and regional parties like Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) to pose a challenge to the NDA juggernaut on one side and somewhat lesser, but still a force nonetheless, RJD on the other.

As reported, Kushwaha, who has been unofficially declared off-limit by the RJD, was hoping to make a deal with his off-again, on-again friend and political ally Nitish Kumar but the latter is said to be in no mood to make a deal with him, or even Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), over seat-sharing.

As recalled, the RLSP chief, who has a long history of overestimating his political strength despite a rather less than stellar success in his long career, quit the NDA earlier in 2019 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi repeatedly turned down his request to give him time to discuss whatever was bothering him at the time.

He then walked right back into the arms of the RJD only to be snubbed again by its leader Tejaswi Yadav who handles the party affairs in the absence of his father Lalu Prasad Yadav who continues to languish in a Ranchi jail in connection with the fodder scam.

Elections are being held in Bihar with the first of the three phases starting on October 28. Second and third phases are slated to be held on November 3 and 7. Results are to be announced on November 10.
