Almost every part of the world is severely facing the deadly pandemic, COVID -19 also called as CORONA VIRUS. At least 14 lakh peoples all over the world are suffering from this pandemic and over 75 thousand people have lost their lives till now.
Government is busy in making measures to control this deadly virus from spreading to saving lives. Many countries are imposing lock-down to stop gathering and hence preventing the spread of virus from one person to other.
Similarly, chairing the first council meeting and announcing a 21-day lockdown in India, to combat the corona virus outbreak via – video conferencing; the honorable Prime Minister of India , indicated a phased emergency from the lockdown and said that this crisis is an opportunity to boost the Make- In- India initiative and reduce dependence on other countries.
Therefore, watching over the steps taken by the government of India and of other nations, the citizens of the respective country are also being executed with certain responsibilities being a citizen of the country.
Being a citizen, we should primarily avoid ourselves from gathering. Also, in some countries, where lock -down has been imposed, we should follow the rules and regulations of the government by being at home and not be out unnecessarily. Develop the habit of hand washing, personal hygiene.
Almost every religion preaches essential preventive measures stated as below:
Quarantine is a Prophetic advice:
“Run away from the leper (the one with contagious ailment) as you would run away from lion.”
Social distancing is Prophetic command:
“Those with contagious diseases should be kept away from those who are healthy.”
Travel ban is a Prophetic teaching:
“Do not enter a land where the plague (contagious ailment) has broken out; don’t leave
Face Masking is a Prophetic teaching:
Prophet while sneezing, would cover his face with his hands or with his garments.
Wash hands every time you enter home:
The Prophet said “Cleanliness is half of faith".
Home quarantine is a Prophetic advice:
The plague (contagion) patient who remains in his home with patience and expectation of reward, knowing that nothing will befall him other than Allah’s decree will attain the reward of a martyr”.
Many religious gurus requested people not to come out of their houses unnecessarily and to hold themselves in prayer.
In Hinduism, Cleanliness is an important virtue and the Bhagwat Gita describes it as one of the divine qualities which one must practice.
In Sikhism “Cleanliness is stressed to the extent of sanity”.
The Sikh coalition reminded people to:
“Stay home when you are sick, and seek medical care sooner rather than later especially if you have a cough, fever, or shortness of breath.”
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Refrain from hugs and handshakes as much as possible i.e., practice social distancing.
Coming up to the main point, the responsibility of every citizen is to ensure that everyone is safe and is in protection from the deadly virus. Almost every religion teaches to all its followers to practice social distancing, and to be clean as much as possible so as tobe safe from the disease during the pandemic.
We should also be careful about the needy and donate essential amenities such as food, water and some amount of money as per our capability, so that they should be in good health. It is rightly said that a powerful nation is one which has its responsible citizens.
Last, but not the least, every citizen is responsible for taking care of the country by following the rules and regulations assigned to him or her by the government during the situation of a pandemic.
